Sione – Samoan Language Week

Manuia le aso, Talofa lava,

Hello everyone and happy Samoan Language Week! For Samoan Language Week we made a Samoan umu. An umu is a traditional method of cooking food, it is mostly used in the Pacific Islands. We learnt that the umu mostly uses “thermal energy”. The first thing we did in our day was have a Samoan prayer, took a group photo, checked on the umu and then had a very competitive game f kilikiti! Kilikiti is a Samoan version of cricket. The bat is a lot different because it’s more heavy and harder to swing.

The boys did the Siva afi – fire dance but we didn’t light the sides on fire we just practised spinning the stick and the form of how to spin the stick.

Something I enjoyed doing today was learning how to play Samoan cricket and I liked eating the food.

Here are the pictures.
